Twitter VS Threads: A Detailed Comparison!

Twitter has been one of the best applications on which people share their political and personal thoughts freely. It’s a kind of platform where people have freedom of speech. However, ever since Threads got launched, there has been a lot of competition between both platforms. Because Threads Is just like Twitter.

Twitter VS Threads: Which one is better? This is the question that many people are finding the answer to. Thus, in this article, I’m going to compare both of the platforms, including their features, so that you can decide which one is better than the other.

Stay around!

What’s Twitter?

The Twitter platform is where you can share messages called “tweets.” It’s like a public bulletin board where you post your thoughts, opinions, and updates. You can follow people and see their tweets, creating a giant online conversation.

Twitter is used to discuss various topics like news, sports, and entertainment, helping you stay connected and informed.

With a 280-character limit, you have to be concise. Hashtags make it easier to find tweets on specific topics. It’s fast-paced, with real-time conversations and the ability to like, retweet, or reply to tweets. Elon Musk is the new owner of Twitter as he bought it for $44 billion in 2022.

Twitter vs. threads

What’s Threads?

Now it’s time to talk about Threads. So, Threads is also a micro-blogging platform where you can share your posts, pictures, text posts, videos, and stories. This platform resembles a lot of Twitter and works exactly the same.

This is a new app that was launched just on July 5, 2023, and you’d be amazed to know that just 12 hours after it was launched, it had reached 15 million downloads on the Play Store. Sounds interesting?

On the Threads platform, you don’t need to create a new account. Instead, you can sign up with your existing Instagram account and get all of your followers and other data on it. But now the question is, What are the differences between Twitter and Threads?

Twitter VS Threads: What are the differences?

We’ll have to examine both platforms’ features and then compare them to determine their differences. And that’s what we’ll do now.

User Experience

Posting on threads is just like posting on Twitter, where you click the Plus icon to post, you just have to go over to the new thread option and then post.

However, I used both platforms and found the interface of Threads to be more intriguing and clean compared to Twitter.

Every function is organized on threads in a good and clean manner, which looks good to the eyes. But on Twitter, the interface is quite cluttered with so many things.

User Experience

Retweets And Reposts

Just like you can retweet any tweet on Twitter, you can reshare any posts on threads with the option “Repost”. The only difference between the options is the name, which on Twitter is Retweet, Retweet and on threads it’s Repost.  That’s it.

Retweets And Reposts

Username Rights

In Threads, you can’t change your username unless you change your Instagram account too. Twitter, on the other hand, is free.

Ability To Search

This is where Twitter wins the game as of now, as its threads are a very new platform. Twitter allows you to search for not only specific accounts but also hashtags as well as tweets. But you can’t do that on threads.

On the other hand, you can only search for the account. Since the thread is quite new, it may also have the same search capability as Twitter or even better in the future.

Video Limit

Mark Zuckerberg has played quite well in terms of the video limit on Threads. The video limit on threads is up to 5 minutes, while on Twitter it’s only 2 minutes, 20 seconds. It means that even if you like making or sharing video content, you can do so better on Threads than on Twitter.

Post Drafting

Drafts are useful for gathering your thoughts before you post. Twitter has had them for ages, but Threads doesn’t yet. I’m sure they’ll get them soon.

Messaging

A big part of social media is being able to communicate with followers directly. Unfortunately, Threads doesn’t have a messaging feature.

Availability

Not everyone likes using social media apps on smartphones only. Some people use it on their laptops and computers too. This is why Twitter is available on all types of devices.

However, Threads is only available for smartphones, including iOS and Android. It has yet to be available for computers and laptops.

Blue Badge Is Free

You must already be aware that when Elon Musk acquired Twitter, he imposed a fee of $8 per month for the blue badge. While Thread offers it for free.

And the best part is, if you have a blue badge on Instagram, then you’ll also have it on the threads account, as threads sync all of the information from Instagram. Sounds interesting?

Following List

There’s also a difference between Threads and Twitter in that Threads doesn’t have a list of people you follow. To see who you’re following, tap the “followers” tab, and then go to the “following” section.

Another section called “pending” shows who you have requested to follow. As for Twitter, it clearly has two tabs: “followings” and “followers.”

Deletion of Account

This is where signing up for Threads with your Instagram account can be a problem for you. Mark Zuckerberg is quite intelligent, and he does know how to stick users to its newly launched Threads platform.

On the other hand, once you’ve signed up for your Instagram account and, in the future, you want to delete the thread account but keep on using your Instagram account, you won’t be able to do that.

You’ll have to delete your Instagram account if you delete your Threads account. You have no choice but to use the Threads and keep your account signed in, even when you don’t want to. Or else, you’ll lose your Instagram too.

Meanwhile, to delete the Twitter account, you just have to deactivate it for a month, and it’ll be permanently deleted. Pretty simple, right?

Threads Doesn’t Contain any Ads:

Twitter does have many ads popping on it whenever you open it. However, as of now, Threads doesn’t have any ads on it. The interface is completely clean and you can use it without the distractions of ads.

User Base

Compared to Threads, Twitter has over 330 million active users. This means your content can reach a bigger audience on Twitter, but it also means more noise and clutter, so it’s harder to stand out.

Number Of Features

Compared to Threads, Twitter offers hashtags, polls, and embedded media. You can use these features to reach a bigger audience and engage your followers, but they can also be overwhelming. Threads has fewer features and a simpler interface, so it’s easier to use.

Discoverability

Threads isn’t as well-known as Twitter, so it’s not as discoverable. It’ll be harder to promote your content on Threads. But, that’s not a problem as Threads uses are increasing way faster than any other platform.

Feel

It’s more public on Twitter because everyone who follows you can see your tweets. Threads are more private, as only your close followers can see your posts. It’s great for people who want to connect with their followers more.

Conversation

For people who want one-on-one conversations with their followers, Threads is a better choice than Twitter, which is hard to keep track of multiple conversations at the same time.

Twitter Vs Threads: Which one is better?

It depends on the user’s requirements and how he wants to use the platform. Both platforms are the best in their own ways.

If you’re the kind of person who likes sharing news, likes writing short posts on Twitter, participates in trending topics, and wants your post to reach a large audience.

However, if you want a personal space to chat, post your interests, post longer videos of up to 5 minutes, and want to have an ad-free environment, then you can go for threads.
